「豪小子」2/林書豪' 96483林書豪日前的季前熱身賽首戰以全新雷鬼髮型亮相，雖然主要用意是希望人們跨過種族框架、互相欣賞彼此的文化，不過在近日引發老大哥2/馬丁' 90055馬丁（Kenyon Martin）的不滿後，林書豪今天也語帶尊敬且幽默的回應馬丁的批評，再度博得各界好評。
林書豪在前一場出戰尼克的比賽中以黑人招牌的「辮髮」造型亮相，而他也在「球星看台」上分享背後用意，強調這次採取的雷鬼髮型涉及文化問題，但在經過多次考慮與詢問他人意見後，仍讓他決定跨出大膽的一步，希望透過此事呼籲眾人能夠透過交流、減少批判。
不過這樣的做法仍引發了曾效力過2/籃網' 96496籃網的野獸派前鋒馬丁不滿，並錄製影片呼籲林書豪應該停止這樣的做法，「需要我去提醒那個小鬼，他的姓氏是『林』嗎？停止這樣做吧，即使你有這樣的髮型，也不可能真的成為我們的一份子，該有人去跟他說『兄弟，我們都知道你想成為黑人，我們真的明白，不過你的姓氏仍是林。』」
雖然自己的善意遭到馬丁的批評，但林書豪也在個人社群網站上委婉的回應馬丁，並且拿出了馬丁身上的「患得患失」中文刺青來強調，兩人作法都是在互相尊重彼此的文化。
林書豪在社群網站中回應馬丁時提到：「老兄，你可以不喜歡我的髮型以及我的想法，我也很感激你願意跟我說實話。不過你的中文刺青也是一種對其他文化的尊敬作法，我認為身為少數民族，更多對於彼此文化的欣賞就愈能影響主流社會，感謝你為籃網和籃球所做過的一切，你的海報還曾在我的牆上陪伴我成長。」
事實上馬丁批評林書豪的言論一出後，不少網友都認為馬丁的說法並不恰當，這也讓馬丁錄製第二段影片強調自己並不是要說種族問題，「任何人都可以學習搖滾，不管他是帶著什麼樣的搖滾髮型，不過這不代表我就該去欣賞或認同。」
雖然自己的說法不見得能說服所有反對他新髮型和想法的人，但林書豪也樂見關於文化差異的對話與溝通能夠繼續下去，「我或許沒能正確的表達我的想法，但我希望這只是個開始而不是結束，有更多關於我們不同的對話，我們需要的是更多的同理心、更少的批判，這需要實際去做和溝通，就從現在開始吧。」
